Julie Mayer (Susan's daughter), notices them flirting at Mary Alice's wake, so the morning after she "accidentally" kicks her soccer ball into Mike's backyard, trying to get information about him for her mother. Huber told him that she was a children books' illustrator, which she confirmed. They introduce one another and he tells her that he just started renting the Simms's house, and works as a plumber. ![]() Susan helps Mike spit out the food and he says it tastes like it's "burned and undercooked". While he is there, he is stopped from loading macaroni and cheese on his plate by Susan Mayer, and he refuses to believe that she screwed it up, and tastes it anyway. Mike moves to Wisteria Lane from Los Angeles, and in the (" Pilot") he is first seen while at the wake, in the now former home of Mary Alice Young. Every time we went to the movies and the hero shot the bad guy, you could have turned to me and said, "Oh, by the way, I did that once.", but you didn't! Or when you said, "Hey, let's go jogging!" you could have said, "Wow, by the way, I once killed a man.". During her last living days, while in the hospital, she asked Mike to take good care of him.Įvery time we went out for pizza, you could have said, "Oh, and by the way, I once killed a man.". Mike moved to Wisteria Lane a long with his late wife’s German Shepard, Bongo. Mike moved to Fairview from Los Angeles, and although he wanted to stay in L.A., the memories of his wife proved to be too much for him, and Noah, who was terminally ill, had asked him to find information about Deirdre so that he would die knowing what happened to his daughter. (" Pilot") Mike had been previously married, and started renting the Simms’ house on 4356 Wisteria Lane, one year after his wife’s death, and shortly prior to Mary Alice’s suicide in 2004. Mike was sent to Wisteria Lane by Noah Taylor, Deirdre’s father, to investigate the lane and its neighbors, in search of what happened to his daughter. (" Impossible"/" Sunday in the Park with George"/" One Wonderful Day") To stop her from taking the baby, Angela (Mary Alice) stabbed Deirdre and buried her under their pool. The two of them took the baby to Wisteria Lane and Deirdre came back for it four years later. Later, Deirdre sold her baby to Angela and Todd Forrest for drug money. Deirdre was left pregnant with a child she named " Dana". He was sent to jail for five years for manslaughter and drug dealing. A rogue cop once tried to rape Deirdre, but Mike defended her by throwing the cop off the balcony by killing him. Mike soon began to date a girl named Deirdre Taylor, a drug addict whom he loved very much. When Mike was a teenager he was popular, however, his father was arrested for murdering his boss and sent to serve a life-sentence, destroying Mike's popularity. ![]() When Mike was young, his father, Nick Delfino, used to beat his mother, Adele, and Mike felt bad as he couldn't do anything to help her, thus giving Mike a need to protect people in the future (" You Take for Granted"). ![]() However, after helping one of his neighbors, Mike's life is tragically ended when he is shot by a loan shark. They later get married and have a son, MJ Delfino, together. In Fairview, he soon meets Susan Mayer and they subsequently fall in love. Deidre later found out she was pregnant with his baby, but gave birth without ever telling Mike about their son. Deidre was at one time in a relationship with Mike, but he left her and married another woman. Mike rents the Simms's house, and works as a plumber, and is also hired by Deidre’s father, Noah Taylor to investigate the Lane and its neighbors hoping to find out what happened to his missing daughter. How to Sharpen Peeler?-5 Alternative Methods to Follow! To know how to sharpen, see the next segment. You’ll also lose energy and put a lot of pressure to peel with it. Otherwise, you won’t be able to use the peeler. That means it’s time to sharpen your peeler. If the peeler fails to catch the tomato peel, it’s not sharp enough. Lastly, take a tomato and try to peel it. If it tears, consider that it needs sharpening. See if the peel comes off at a time or the peel tears halfway. See if the peeling stops in about 2-3 cm rather than going to the end.Īlso, see if you’re putting too much pressure to peel it off. You’ll also have to be sure if your peeler actually needs sharpening. Because without the proper guideline, you’ll end up with a destroyed peeler. But for that, you’ll need to follow a method. Yes, you can sharpen your peeler at home. Why don’t you check that out? Can I Sharpen My Peeler? – Your Question Answered We know that we’ve missed a few details here. If you don’t feel like using any tools, remove the peeler blade, turn the blade and place it again. Scratch the peeler with that to make it sharp. Well, you can use a flat file or nail file. This has made you realize that the peeler isn’t sharp enough.
![]() This means that a late closing intake point (with a long duration cam) reduces the engine’s dynamic compression ratio. This is because compression cannot begin until the intake valve closes. Remember that cylinder pressure is directly affected by cam timing. There’s still plenty of advantages to building a street engine with high compression that will take maximum advantage of the fuel’s reduced energy content. His recommendations will be conservative since we were talking about pump E85 as opposed to his company’s version of E85 which has a significantly higher octane rating than normal pump E85. We did a quick scan of the JE piston catalog and the highest compression off-the-shelf piston for a big-block Chevy, for example, was 14:1 with a 112cc chamber.Īccording to Wusz, even given the cooling effect of E85, his recommendation would be to limit the static compression ratio to 13:1 on a 4.00-inch bore small block and slightly lower in a larger bore engine like a big block Chevy. My guess is that a huge domed piston would hurt combustion efficiency more than it would help. The issue becomes the ability to generate that much compression. To answer your question directly, it appears both from our ECR chart and our own testing that you could run E85 on a normally aspirated, static compression ratio of 15:1. This also reinforces Rockett’s listing their E85 fuel as compatible with a normally-aspirated engine with up to 16:1 compression ratio. That means that you could reasonably build a 14:1 compression ratio engine and run it on E85 and not expect problems with detonation. This reveals our engine was running an effective compression ratio of over 15:1. Let’s plug in our 10:1 compression engine with a psi of boost into this equation: Given that warning, the formula looks like this:Įffective Compression Ratio (ECR) = x Static Compression Ratio This formula does not take into account the increase in inlet air temperature that occurs when you compress air – we’ll get to that later. This simple formula converts the amount of boost to additional compression ratio as if the engine were normally aspirated. One way to estimate the actual static compression ratio is by using a simple formula that produces a result referred to as Effective Compression Ratio (ECR). The engine made 600 flywheel horsepower using a Magnuson supercharger. If you look at our Effective Compression Ratio Chart (we’ll explain what that is in a moment) this would be like running a normally aspirated small-block with a 15:1 static compression ratio. The engine ran perfectly and we experienced no detonation problems. This was run on normal E85 and we checked to make sure the fuel was actually 85 percent ethanol and according to our test it was very close. As I mentioned last month, we tested a small block Chevy with a static 10:1 compression ratio with 9 psi of boost using E85. Wusz says that of the two numbers, greater emphasis should always be placed on the Motor octane number.īefore I get too deep into this, let’s try to quickly answer your question with some actual dyno testing as opposed to just theory. Evaluating these numbers, the “real-world” Motor number is always lower, but the goal is to have the two numbers be relatively close. Adding the two and dividing by two ((R+M) / 2) produces an AKI of 112. In the case of Rockett Brand’s E85, the Research number is 116 and the Motor number is 108. The first is a calculated number called Research octane and the second is Motor octane generated by actually testing the fuel in a variable compression ratio single cylinder engine. All gasolines use an anti-knock index (AKI) for the octane number created by averaging the fuel’s detonation-suppressing capabilities based on two very different tests. Rockett sells its own brand of race E85 listed as 112 octane. So with that as a variable, we might safely assume the octane to be closer to around 100. According to Tim Wusz of Rockett Racing Brand fuels, the quality of that blended gas may not necessarily be as good as 87 octane. It has a commonly accepted octane rating of 105 although that may vary depending upon the quality of the 15 percent gasoline. To quickly refresh, E85 is 85 percent ethanol (grain alcohol) and 15 percent gasoline. Jeff Smith: This is an interesting question that came out of last month’s discussion about E85. What is a general safe effective compression ratio on E85? The internet results in varying opinions from 13:1 up to an extreme 20:1. ![]() Instead, I had to use a drop-down menu to choose whether I wanted to open it in an external editor or the native Photo Editor. For HHG in crystalline solids, an analogous electron-trajectory picture can, in principle, be applied in momentum space (after applying Bloch’s theorem), which includes both same-site recollision 7 and coherent scattering from the nearest neighbour atoms 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15. A hallmark of the model is that it correctly predicts the HHG cut-off and its quadratic dependence on both the electric-field amplitude and wavelength, as these depend on the trajectory of the most energetic returning electron trajectory 5, 6. The results of this approach are usually in good agreement with those of full ab-initio calculations, and can be used to extract dynamical information from high-harmonic spectroscopy 3, 4. In the gas phase, this understanding is often based on the semi-classical three-step model (TSM) 1 or its quantum mechanical extension 2, which describes high-harmonic generation (HHG) in terms of a set of electron trajectories initiated by a tunnelling process. Our work also indicates the possibility of resolving subfemtosecond electron dynamics in liquids offering an all-optical approach to attosecond spectroscopy of chemical processes in their native liquid environment.Ī prerequisite for accurately interpreting the underlying dynamics of a system using measured high-harmonic spectra lies in formulating a broadly applicable theoretical or conceptual model. This regime is extremely difficult to access with other methodologies, but is critical for understanding radiation damage to living tissues. Our results propose high-harmonic spectroscopy as an all-optical approach for determining the effective mean free paths of slow electrons in liquids. This is further confirmed by measurements performed with elliptically polarized light and with ab-initio time-dependent density functional theory calculations. We explain these observations with a semi-classical model based on electron trajectories that are limited by the electron scattering. By studying high-harmonic generation over a broad range of wavelengths and intensities, we show that the cut-off energy is independent of the wavelength beyond a threshold intensity and that it is a characteristic property of the studied liquid. Here we extend its use to liquid samples. It has been applied to a variety of systems in the gas phase and solid state. High-harmonic spectroscopy is an all-optical nonlinear technique with inherent attosecond temporal resolution. If you have several credit accounts, then the costs of interest may add up quickly. The more you deposit into the credit account, the faster you reduce your principal balance, and the less you usually have to pay in interest.įor example, if you owe a lender $50 per month in interest payments and pay off $100 a month in total, then $50 of your payment goes toward settling your principal debt, thereby reducing it. ![]() When you make monthly payments to the lender, everything you pay above the interest payment amount goes toward paying off the principal. By understanding all of the terms and conditions involved with personal loans, you can get a better idea of the money you’ll ultimately owe. Using a loan principal and interest calculator is a good strategy for helping you make a plan for paying down your principal balance faster. The importance of paying down your principal balance Principal balance – While the principal is the amount of money you initially loan, the principal balance is the total outstanding balance of this amount, not including interest. Principal payment – Payment made on a loan that reduces the amount due, rather than a payment on your accumulated interest Interest payment – When making your monthly payment, the interest payment refers to the amount of money that goes toward paying the interest charges. We have also seen him with Phil and Mark attempting to sing "Copacabana".īee-do-bee-do-bee-do! One of the most memorable lines happens to be Carl’s only line in the first two Despicable Me movies. Strangely enough, Tim appears bald in this scene. During the second movie, he is seen with a beard when Gru announces his new job. In the first Despicable Me movie, a mustache and a hat gave him the dad-like quality. It can be extremely difficult to tell the two apart, though Tim is often dressed like a dad. Minion Tim looks a lot like Kevin: tall, with two eyes and sprout hair. Like Kevin, it is unclear if this is the same character with a new design or a completely different Phil. However, there is one huge difference: this Phil only has one eye. He is the Minion who dresses up like a baby and goes to the store to get Agnes a new Unicorn toy. We also hear Phil’s name mentioned in the first film. Although we never see who abducted him, it was assumed to be Dr. While Phil was cleaning the house, there was a knock at the door. Minion Phil is a two-eyed, spiky-haired Minion who doesn’t get a lot of screen time, but is infamous for his lovely French maid attire. It is unclear if the directors gave Kevin a redesign before Despicable Me 2 or if these are different Minion characters altogether. The Kevin in the original Despicable Me film was much shorter and only had one eye, nearly identical to Stuart. While Minion Kevin was a household name in both Despicable Me movies, the two depictions are actually quite different. In the Minions movie, Kevin the Minion takes on a leading role. A few of his most memorable moments include flirting with a yellow fire hydrant, spraying Carl with the fire extinguisher while he was dressed up as Lucy, driving a car with Dave, being used as a glow stick, and parasailing behind Lucy’s car, bound by his bibs. While fans were made to wait a little longer for the fourth member of Apple's 2022 iPhone 14 series, the iPhone 14 Plus replaced the mini entry from the previous two generations, instead dragging the slider the other way and offering a super-sized iPhone experience that, in recent years, was exclusive to the line's Pro Max entries.Īs such, you get a 6.7-inch display, as you do with the 14 Pro Max, however the rest of the phone's sensibilities are more closely tied to the standard iPhone 14, with the same dual 12MP rear cameras and enhanced A15 Bionic chip lifted from the previous year's iPhone 13 Pro, as well as a repeat of the notch instead of the 14 Pro line's flashy new Dynamic Island. Once we've published our full review of the iPhone 15 Plus, it will likely replace the iPhone 14 Plus in our ranking as the best iPhone for battery life. ![]() We're still testing the iPhone 15 Plus, which prohibits us from including that phone in this list. If you're looking for a cheap iPhone to see you through the next couple of years, this is it.īefore you read on: a disclaimer. Even so, this is still a superb device with plenty of life left in it. The lack of a 120Hz screen, which saw its iPhone debut on the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max, is a shame, and it's doubly upsetting that even its successor didn't move past 60Hz. At launch, Apple claimed that the iPhone 13 had a 50% faster CPU than the competition, and while that’s hard to confirm, this is certainly a speedy phone. We were also impressed by its design, which includes a smaller notch (versus the iPhone 13), and by the sheer amount of power that this phone still has to offer, which comes as a result of its A15 Bionic chipset. In our review, we found that the phone's battery life was particularly impressive, with the iPhone 13 making it through every day that we used it without needing a top-up before bed. More importantly, though, it's the cheapest iPhone (bar the iPhone SE) that Apple still sells. The iPhone 13 wasn't the biggest yearly iPhone upgrade we'd ever seen when it arrived in 2021, but almost every aspect of it is a little better than the iPhone 12, which means it's still a brilliant iPhone overall. In other words, when it comes to iPhones, the iPhone 15 Pro Max is the best of the best, but you'll have to pay handsomely for the privilege of owning one, and Samsung's Galaxy S23 Ultra actually has slightly better cameras. In addition to that periscope zoom lens – which marks the first of its kind on an iPhone – the iPhone 15 Pro Max boasts a 48MP quad-pixel main lens and a 12MP ultra-wide lens, making it the most capable and versatile iPhone yet for mobile photographers.īeyond its photography capabilities, the iPhone 15 Pro Max packs an excellent 6.7-inch Super XDR OLED screen (with ProMotion), a gorgeous titanium design, a USB-C port and Apple's all-new A17 Pro chipset, which delivers mobile gaming performance comparable to some high-end PCs (yes, really). The smaller iPhone 15 Pro is also an exceptional handset that's worth considering if you prefer its more practical 6.1-inch size, but since the larger iPhone 15 Pro Max offers a 5x periscope zoom lens, the latter phone is the objectively superior device. The iPhone 15 Pro Max is indisputably the best iPhone money can buy in 2023, so for Apple fans, this is the top choice. Sure, the $999 / £999 / AU$1,849 asking price is high, but the iPhone 15 Pro will almost certainly see you through the next four or five years without issue. ![]() As mentioned, that last figure is bettered by the iPhone 15 Pro Max, but the iPhone 15 Pro's overall camera setup still ranks among the best on the market everyday users will find more than enough photographic power here. On the back, you're getting a 48MP quad-pixel main lens and a 12MP ultra-wide lens, along with a 12MP telephoto lens that's capable of 3x optical zoom. The iPhone 15 Pro's stunning 6.1-inch Super XDR OLED screen (with ProMotion) is unchanged from the (also excellent) iPhone 14 Pro, but this time, everything is underpinned by Apple's all-new A17 Pro chipset, which promises console-level gaming performance and supreme multi-tasking capabilities. The iPhone 15 Pro boasts a gorgeous titanium design that can withstand unwelcome drops more effectively than its predecessor, and the addition of a USB-C port makes this a more versatile device, too (in terms of both charging and compatibility).
